应用英语专业是上海市的重点专业。本专业培养学生具有扎实的英语基础及语言应用能力，强调学生职业岗位所必须的专业技能。

The Applied English is a KeyProgram by Shanghai Municipal Educational Commission. The Program takes it asits mission to help its students to lay a solid foundation in English andemphasizes students’ ability to apply English. In the meantime, the Programalso stresses the professional skills students will have to acquire for theirfuture occupation.

本专业具有一支年龄结构合理、专业学术能力强、爱岗敬业的教师队伍，其中教授三名（一名兼职），副教授两名，80%以上的教师具有硕士学位。教师和学生在全国、上海市教学竞赛和语言技能大赛中成绩尤为优异，为学院赢得了无数的声誉。拥有“上海市优秀教学团队”、“上海市精品课程-商务英语沟通”、获得“上海市名师”和“上海市育才奖”各一人次。承担和完成上海市各类科研项目10余个。

The Program of Applied English boasts a teamof teachers, who are well-structured in age, possess competent professionalexpertise and shoulder a strong sense of responsibility. Among the Faculty,there are three Full Professors with one working on part-time basis, twoassociate professors and over 80 percent of teachers are the holders of MasterDegree. Both teachers and students have done SICFL a lot of credit in teachingcompetitions and contests of applying language skills, which are held both atnational and municipal levels. In addition, the Program enjoys the award of “ExcellentTeaching Team” and “Excellent Course—Business English Communication”, both ofwhich are at the Shanghai Municipal Level. Moreover, two teachers from theProgram were privileged to have received the award of “Master Teacher atShanghai Municipal Level” and “Shanghai Talent Cultivation” respectively. Andso far, the teachers in the Program have undertaken and accomplished over 10projects of educational research at the Shanghai Municipal level.

专业主干课程：“综合英语、英语阅读、英语视听说、英语写作、英汉翻译、英美国家概况、实用英语写作与翻译、实用英语口译、英语综合能力实训等。此外，学生还自主选择“国际商务、涉外旅游、涉外文秘”等方向的课程群，提高职场背景的语言应用能力。

 Thecore courses of the Program of Applied English are “Comprehensive (Integrated )English, Extensive Reading, English Audio-Visual & Spoken Course, EnglishWriting, Chinese & English Bilingual Translation, Brief Survey ofEnglish-speaking Countries, Practical English Writing & Translation,Practical English Interpretation, English Comprehensive & Practical AbilityTraining”, among others. In addition, students are required to choose, out oftheir accord, one package of courses out of the three, namely “InternationalBusiness, Foreign-related Tourism, Secretary in Foreign-related Enterprises orPositions” so as to enhance their ability to apply the target language in thecontext of their workplaces in future.

要求学生获得：“大学英语四级证书（必考）、鼓励获得大学英语六级证书、计算机能力一级证书（必考）、职业模块相关证书（选考一项）等。

The students of the Program arerequired to obtain the certificates like “CET Band 4 (Compulsory)” andencouraged to get “CET Band 6, Computer Skills Certificate ( Level I)(Compulsory) and certificates with regard to one module of professional skillsthey have chosen by themselves.

本专业学生就业岗位主要在涉外企业、合资企业、跨国公司等部门中的商务翻译、商务助理、商务文秘、商务代理等。此外，学生也可参加“专生本”课程的学习。

The students from the Program will, when theyhave finished formal education, undertake such positions as “businessinterpreters/translators, business assistants, secretary for business affairsand business agent in export-oriented enterprises, joint ventures andtransnational corporations. Besides, students may also choose to take bridgeprograms in institutions of higher learning either at home or abroad.

本专业与英国诺桑比亚大学、爱尔兰阿斯隆理工大学等院校建立了合作关系，开展“3+1”或“3+2”项目的合作。学生就业率连续数年达到100%，专业对口率高于85%。

The program of Applied English has beenactively involved in international collaborations and has establishedcooperative relations with Northumbria University, U.K. and Athlone Instituteof Technology, Ireland in the form of ‘3+1’ or ‘3+2’. Students’ employment ratehas kept a record high of 100 percent for years running and over 85 percent ofthe graduates work at posts where English is much used.
