英语系现有专兼职教师共有45名，其中专职教授2名，兼职教授1名，副教授2名，6名外籍教师（专兼职）分别来自美国、加拿大、爱尔兰等国家。专职教师中85% 拥有硕士及以上学位，其中有70%教师参加过全国高职高专师资培训，获“双师”素质证书。英语系教师积极开展教学研究，参与各类英语教材编写，主编出版教材近20部。《高等院校实用英语听说教程》2007年获上海市优秀教材三等奖。2007年11月《情景体验式英语教学中的听说技能培养》被批准为国家社会科学基金项目“体验式英语教学理论与实践”的子课题。英语专业是上海市高职院校的重点专业，2012年获得“上海市优秀教学团队”。2人次获得“上海市教学名师”和“育才奖”。“商务英语沟通”课程为上海市精品课程。在教师悉心培养和指导下，英语系学生在上海和全国高职院校英语专业的竞赛中多次获得特等奖、一等奖等，为学院赢得了荣誉。英语系现有注册在校生1357人，毕业生就业率连续数年保持100%，就业对口率在同类院校同类专业中保持名列前茅。英语系积极开展对外交流，与英国诺桑比亚大学、爱尔兰阿斯隆理工大学等建立了密切的合作关系。每年有许多学生赴这些合作院校进行课程学习或者专升本学习。此外，许多英语系学生利用寒暑假赴国外参加社会实践，进行对象国文化体验，并且积极参加上海的大型国际文娱与体育赛事的服务，开拓了视野，提高了语言应用能力。应用英语专业注重教学改革，拓展“涉外文秘、涉外旅游、国际贸易”等三个专业方向，以增强学生的社会竞争力。

Department of English

The Department of English now boasts a team of 45 full-time andpart-time teachers, among whom 2 are full professors and one full professorworks on the part-time basis. Besides, there are two associate professors and 6overseas full-time and part-time teachers coming from the United States ofAmerica, Canada, Ireland, among others. Among the full-time teachers, 85percent are the holders of Master Degree and 70 percent have participated inthe technical and vocational training held by Ministry of Education, receivingthe certificates for being qualified to conduct theoretical teaching and offerpractical training for students.

While undertaking teaching, teachers from the Department ofEnglish are quite active in conducting educational research, the compiling oftextbooks of various varieties for example. So far, as many as 20 textbookshave been published thanks to the joint collaboration of the teaching stafffrom the Department. The textbook 《The Practical Course for EnglishListening & Speaking in Tertiary Schools》was award “The Third Prize for ExcellentTextbooks” in Shanghai in 2007. The November, 2007 saw the official approval ofthe research item 《The Training of Listening & SpeakingSkills in English Teaching in Situational Context》asa project subsidized by National Social Science Fund. The Program of AppliedEnglish is a key program under construction among technical & vocationalinstitutions in Shanghai. In 2012, the Department of English was privileged tobe included as “Excellent Teaching Team” by Shanghai Municipal EducationalCommission. Two teachers have received “The Award for Renown Teachers” and “TheAward for Cultivating Talents” respectively. Moreover, the core course“Business English Communication” has been selected as an “Excellent CourseConstruction”.

Thanks to the sound instruction andpersistent training by teachers, the students from the Department of Englishhave won many honors for SICFL by being awarded “Special Prizes” and “The FirstPrizes” for many times in contests for English major students among technical& vocational institutions at municipal and national levels.

Currently, the registered students number 1,357 and the graduateemployment rate has kept 100 percent for years running. Its employment ratesuited to students’ special training ranks the top among institutions of thesame kind. In addition, the Department of English is keen on promotinginternational cooperation. It has established collaborative relations withNorthumbria University, U.K. and Athlone Institute of Technology, to name justa few and maintained close ties with them. Every year, many students go tothese partner institutions and other overseas tertiary schools either forcourse-based study or for Bridge Programs.

The Depart of English takes the fullest advantage of what themetropolis of Shanghai can offer, encouraging and sending its students to goabroad to participate in practice in themed parks and entertainment centers inU.S.A. for example with a view to gaining the first-hand target culturalexperience. Besides, the Department of English never misses any opportunity toprovide its students with various chances to take part in internationalfestivals, events, exhibitions and conferences such as “ATP1000”, “Shanghai InternationalSwimming Championships”, “UNESCO The Third International Technical &Vocational Education Conference” to work as volunteers, through which studentshave not only broadened their horizon but also enhanced their ability ofapplication of the target language.
